The Terror of Mayhem house at night in Lake Forest, fog across the lawn

Lake Forest, California

Terror of Mayhem

Doug Wilson’s walk-through haunt. A Lake Forest house that keeps its lights wrong on purpose.

Walk the rooms

The walk

Six stops. One way through.

Actors stay close. If you need a scene to end, say porch light and they let you out of that room. The rest of the house is still waiting.

  1. A two-story Lake Forest house at night, fog on the lawn and a red porch light

    01

    The Threshold

You come up a wet walk and the house is already paying attention. Fog sits on the dead lawn. The porch light cannot decide if it wants to stay on.

  2. A sheet-draped parlor with a cracked mirror and moonlight through torn curtains

    02

    The Still House

Sheets on the furniture. A mirror that does not give you back. Nothing moves until you decide it didn’t.

  3. A cracked porcelain doll on a velvet chair beside an open music box

    03

    The Listener

A music box, a cracked doll, a chair that was warm a moment ago. She does not blink. You will swear she did.

  4. A narrow candlelit hallway with a silhouette standing in the far doorway

    04

    The Long Hall

Candles. Wallpaper from a decade that does not match the house. Someone is at the far door. They are closer when you look again.

  5. A foggy backyard cemetery with jack-o-lanterns and a wooden gate

    05

    The Yard Between

Stones that showed up one October and never got hauled off. Pumpkins. A gate that latches from the wrong side.

  6. A steep basement stair disappearing into darkness under a single bulb

    06

    The Mayhem Cellar

Stairs. One bulb. The room Doug builds last, because it has to feel like the house is finished with you.

The maker

Doug Wilson

He builds the haunted houses — frames, fog, timing, the quiet parts that do more damage than a scream. Terror of Mayhem is the one in Lake Forest. It is not a ticket booth on a fairground. It is a property that changes when the month does.

The stills on this site are the rooms as he dressed them. The vault below is where a night’s pictures and videos get kept.

Pictures, video, and whatever the house keeps

The room stills live on the site. Drop your own photos and clips here — a night in the yard, the cellar bulb, the doll that would not sit right. They stay on this phone or computer.

The crew

We build the house at your place

Terror of Mayhem is Doug Wilson’s haunt in Lake Forest. The same crew will put a house on your property — a home, or a business that wants one night of it.

Your home

Porch, yard, garage, or a walk through the rooms you already live in. Neighbors stay neighbors. The address is yours, not a fairground.

Your business

A storefront, a bar, an office party, a fundraiser. A room or a short route that fits the space and comes out after.

  • Doug Wilson

He designs the house and builds it. Frames, timing, and the rooms that stay quiet until they shouldn’t.

  • Sets

Walls, doors, a yard that should not be there. Built so it can come down when the night is over.

  • Light and fog

Practical bulbs and haze. The dark is on purpose.

  • The floor

Actors who stay close, and stop when a guest says porch light.

Ask the crew

Say if it is a home or a business, and where it is. The note goes to updates@terrorofmayhem.com. Doug answers if the crew can take it.

Updates

Hear when the next house opens

Doug Wilson builds more than this one. Leave your name and the list gets a note when the next Terror of Mayhem night is set, and when another house goes up.

The note goes to updates@terrorofmayhem.com. Nothing is posted on the site.

Visit

Ask for the night. The address comes after.

Lake Forest, California

Orange County. The street goes out only after Doug confirms the night. People live on this block.

After dark

October evenings. Other nights when he opens the house for a group. He names the hour with the yes.

Small groups

The halls were not built for a crowd. Come few. Stay with the people you came with.

13 and up feels right

Younger guests only with an adult the whole way. Fog, dark, strobes, loud sound, stairs, live actors. No full contact.
